Speeches delivered at the inauguration of the Sri Lanka Peace talks

The opening session of the Sri Lanka Peace Talks was held at the Ambassador City Hotel, Jomtien, Thailand last morning. The ceremony was attended by members of the diplomatic corps in Thailand, representatives of the NGO community and an over 300-strong media contingent, representing local as well as international print and electronic media.

The opening session commenced at 10.30 am with a speech delivered by Mr. Tej Bunnag, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand. His speech was followed by speeches made by Prof. G. L. Peiris and Dr. Anton Balasingham representing the two delegations, and Mr. Vidar Helgesen, State Secretary, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The opening session followed a photo session held at the
venue of talks within Sattahip Naval base. The first formal session of talks will be held at 3pm today and two more sessions will be held on Tuesday 17th. The final session will be held at 10am on Wednesday 18th September.
