The inaugural meeting of the NAC chaired by the President was held at the Presidential Secretariat on the 4th of October 2004.

It was a gathering of many eminent personalities from different strata of the society—religious, civil society and political.

President Kumaratunga in her address said the setting up of the NACPR is yet another step along the path of her policy and that of her Government for Peace. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse made the opening remarks.
