GOVERNMENT CONDEMNS MUDER

Media Release
05 April 2005

The   Government  of   Sri Lanka   condemns   the  murder  of Mr T. Kailanathan, Director, Vocational Training Center, Ministry of Agricultural Marketing Development, Hindu Affairs, Assisting Education and Vocational Training (North). At the time of his murder, Mr Kailanathan was attending to his official duties at the Technical College in Kattankudy, Batticaloa.

The killing of Government officials engaged in their official duties presents a clear danger to the functioning of Government Institutions in the North and the East. The perpetrators of this deed threaten the peace process and do not uphold the values of a democratic society permitting a pluralism of views and respect of the human rights of all citizens.

The Government of Sri Lanka will make all efforts to ensure the proper functioning of Government Institutions, the maintenance of law and order and bringing those responsible for this murder to justice.
