THE FIRST MEETING OF THE SUB-COMMITTEE ON DE-ESCALATION AND NORMALISATION (SDN)
The first meeting of the SDN was held in Omanthai 10 November. The meeting took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere and lasted for more than five hours including lunch. Mr. Austin Fernando headed the Government delegation while Col. Karuna was the head of the LTTE delegation.

The parties discussed and agreed on procedural matters and identified issues to be resolved by the SDN. Further the parties agreed on dates for District meetings and representatives to participate in these meeting. Meetings at district level will be held to ensure that decisions taken would be embedded in local knowledge.

On the issue of fishing at the coast of Jaffna it was decided that eight entry points for the fishermen will be open on a day and night basis. Two points each on the following four islands will be open: Karanagar, Kayts, Mathagal and Punngudutivu. The location of these entry points will be announced on November 13 by the latest.

Next meeting of the SDN will be held on December 14 in Omanthai at 10 00.
