In preparation for The Tokyo Conference
on Reconstruction and Development of Sri Lanka to be held
June 9-10, 2003, a seminar will be held in Washington,
DC on 14th April.
The seminar will be hosted by Mr. Richard Armitage, U.S.
Deputy Secretary of State, and will include the participation
of senior officials from international agencies and officials
attending the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and IMF.
Approximately 29 countries have been invited along with
23 International Organizations and 2 Foundations. Based
on the premise that peace and economic growth are inextricably
related, the seminar will focus on the peace process and
its international support. It is anticipated that the
seminar will be of immense benefit to the on-going peace
process in Sri Lanka, as it signals the strong support
of the international community for Sri Lanka’s bid
for a lasting peace.
