Maj. Gen. Trond Furuhovde, the outgoing head of SLMM, and Maj.Gen. Tryggve Tellefsen, the new head of SLMM, met with the leader of the LTTE this morning (5 March) to discuss, among other matters, the determination given by the SLMM regarding the soldier and policeman held by the LTTE on alleged charges of ceasefire violations. As a result of these discussions Army Corporal Nimal Kumara and Police Constable D.S.A. Gunasekara were released by the LTTE this afternoon, and brought to Colombo in a SLAF helicopter from Kilinochchi under the care of SLMM and handed over to the respective services.The released service personnel praised the untiring efforts of SLMM to secure their release.
