Norwegian Foreign
Minister Jan Petersen arrived in Colombo yesterday for talks
with the Government and the LTTE. He is accompanied by his
deputy Vidar Helgesen.
Petersen met President Chandrika
Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa
last evening.
Petersen and Helgesen will fly to Kilinochchi today for
talks with the LTTE leadership. Discussions will be essentially
on the resumption of peace talks.
Last week, Vidar Helgesen and Erik Solheim, special envoy
was in Colombo following an invitation by President Kumaratunga
to Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Bondevik to resume his
Government's role as the facilitator.
