Minister Kadiragamar interviewed on CNN

SCOPP Web Release
13 May 2004

Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadiragamar in an interview with CNN's Asia Today reiterated that the ceasefire will hold and there is no danger of it collapsing. The Minister was interviewed on Wednesday, 12.05.2004. The Minister is on a four-day visit in Washington.

“There will be more inclusivity in the resumed peace process. There will be more public and civil society participation.”

Asked to give a date for the re-commencement of peace talks, Minister Kadiragamar said an exact date would be difficult to predict. "Talks have been stalled for a year. Realistically, I would say that it may at least take a couple of months for the face-to-face talks to begin.”

“We have invited the Norwegians to resume their role in the peace process. They are the go-betweens between the Government and the LTTE,” he added.

He would discuss several vital issues with US leaders and officials, including the peace process.
