PRESS RELEASE
Colombo, September 18, 2002
AMBASSADE DE FRANCE A SRI LANKA ET AUX MALDIVES

Statement by the Spokesperson of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Quote :

France welcomes the official négociations which have just been held in Thailand between the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE ( Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam)
France considers this as a significant progress towards the peaceful and negotiated solution of the conflict which it has repeatedly urged.
France encourages the parties to engage in the future negociations with determination and in good faith and to seek, in compliance with Human Rights and Democratic Pluralism, the establishment of a just and lasting peace which takes into account the aspirations of all communities without infringing the intangible principle of territorial integrity and unity of Sri Lanka.
France hails again the efforts made by Norway in its role as ‘facilitator’ of the dialogue.
