Nearly 15,000 people from varied
walks of life have visited the “Peace in Sri Lanka”
Website that was launched by Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe
last week at the
Galle Face Hotel. This is the official Website of the Prime Minister’s
Office,
Secretariat for Co-ordinatng the Peace Process (SCOPP). The Website
provides
updates on the latest developments in the peace
process and includes the background
and history of the peace process. In the current context, with
the peace talks in
progress, the website is updated continuously with information
on the latest
developments.
The overwhelming response to the Peace Process Website
is a clear manifestation of
the keen interest and support towards the peace process of not
only people in Sri
Lanka, but also of other individuals and groups from all over
the world.
Visitors to the Website have been
flocking from all parts of the globe and include many Sri Lankans
who are domiciled overseas. An unprecedented number of visitors
have sent in their comments, views and suggestions on the Website.
Some of these have been published in the Website under the section
“Your Views”. The Communications Unit of SCOPP notes
views that have been put on line as well as those that have not.
Some of the views sent by visitors to the Website are directed
to relevant authorities and officials as appropriate.
Another special feature of the Peace
Website is a section called “People for Peace”. This
section focuses attention on activities and efforts, geared towards
peace building and peace awareness by individuals, Non Governmental
Organisations and other groups. “People for Peace”
is a digital community board where information in this context
is posted. The Communications Unit of SCOPP welcomes details of
such efforts. Write- ups and photographs in this context can be
published on line in the “People for Peace” section
of the Peace in Sri Lanka Website. Those who would like to send
information for the “People for Peace Section”, can
send the information electronically or forward it to the Communications
Unit, Secretariat for Co-ordinating the Peace Process, 10th Floor,
West Tower, World Trade Centre, Colombo 1.
