In preparation for the “Tokyo Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Sri Lanka”, to be held 9 -10 June 2003 in Tokyo, Japan, the documentation relating to development needs is being compiled for distribution among the donor community. The vision and strategy for accelerated development of the entire country will be articulated in the “Regaining Sri Lanka” document.
The multilateral group, constituting the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the United Nations System, presented the final version of the Assessment of Needs in the Conflict Affected Areas of the North and East. The assessment takes a sectoral outlook, broadly covering eight thematic areas, and also identifies cross-cutting issues that require attention.
The multilateral group also completed and presented the final version of the Needs Assessment for the Conflict Related Districts of Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Moneragala. The assessment reflects the impact of the conflict to communities in adjacent districts.
The “Bridge Document”, which provides a link between the documentation, will be presented to the donors in the next few days.
