Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process launches Sinhala Website

SCOPP Web Release
01 November 2003

After one year of successful completion of the ‘peaceinsrilanka’ website, the Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) has launched the Sinhala version of the peace website. The Sinhala website went on-line on 1.11.2003. In September 2002, the ‘peaceinsrilanka’ website (www.peaceinsrilanka.org) was launched by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the official website of the Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP).

From the day of its launch in September 2002, the ‘peaceinsrilanka’ website has been posting the most recent developments on the peace process and related issues. The website has been the chief source of information on the peace process especially for Sri Lankans domiciled abroad, the diplomatic community as well as the international media.

The success of the original peace website has resulted in the formation of the Sinhala website. The primary objective of the Sinhala website is to reach more people locally and update them with accurate information about the ongoing peace process. Through the Sinhala medium, the Peace Secretariat hopes to reach a much wider audience.

The public response to the site is valued highly, noted the Communications Unit of SCOPP. The views and the suggestions of the public can be sent to ‘obe satahan’ (your views), which will undergo careful study and will be either published on the website or directed to relevant authorities as appropriate.

SCOPP announced that measures are underway for the formation of the Tamil version of the peace website. Through the Tamil website, SCOPP aims to communicate to different stakeholders in all three languages and also widen the readership.

The peaceinsrilanka sinhala website can be now accessed on www.peaceinsrilanka.org/sinhala or by clicking “sinhala ’ on the original peace website www.peaceinsrilanka.org
