Major General (retd) Trond Furuhovde, Special Representative of the Royal Norwegian Government met with Mr. Jayantha Dhanapala, Secretary General of the Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP), representatives of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, STF, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconciliation on Wednesday 12th October to look at ways and means of strengthening the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement.

Several issues including the deteriorating security situation in the North and East were brought to the notice of Major Gen. Furuhovde who will take up these issues with the LTTE, during his visit to Kilinochchi on the 13th and 14th of October. Mr Dhanapala also highlighted the need to resume direct talks based on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

Major Gen. Furuhovde is expected to meet Mr Dhanapala on his return from Kilinochchi for further discussions.
