The Sri Lanka Navy, amidst heavy commitments, have provided transport
to the second batch of students from Jaffna to Trincomalee to
participate in the National Schools Games in Colombo. A group of 138
students will proceed to Colombo to take part in various events of the
National Schools Games.
The Army thereafter afforded the students all hospitality during their stay in
Colombo and other areas. The Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace
Process (SCOPP) which helped coordinate the trip, appreciates the kind
gesture of Mr. Maheswaran, MP, who undertook to sponsor the return
trip from Trincomalee to Jaffna.
A third batch of students, 150 of them, is due to leave Jaffna on
September 24, 2007 and the full costs of ferrying them from Jaffna to
Trincomalee and back will be borne by the Security Forces Headquarters
(Jaffna).
SCOPP earlier sponsored a contingent of 215 students, covering travel
expenses, to enable them to participate in various sporting events.
This is part of SCOPP's programme to encourage young people from
different parts of the country to interact in a healthy and positive
manner.
