The third batch of students from Jaffna arrived in Colombo to participate in the National School Games this week. The Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna, arranged full sponsorship through the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sri Lanka and the Nation Trust Bank to ferry 122 students from Jaffna to Trincomalee and back to Jaffna.
The Sri Lanka Army transported the students to Colombo and are ensuring that they are comfortable during their stay in Colombo. Once the games are over, the Army will provide transport for them to go to Trincomalee.
The Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP), which believes that it is important to provide opportunities for children from all communities to interact with one another in a different and healthy environment, helped coordinate the process.
A total of 475 students and staff from schools in Jaffna have been provided this opportunity and they have arrived in three batches.
SCOPP officials expressed appreciation of the efforts of the Comander, Security Forces, Jaffna, the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and all sponsors for their generous contributions to make this possible.
