SL Emblem
Media Release
29 August 2006

The military retaliatory operation launched by the Sri Lanka armed forces to protect the resettling civilians from Tiger terrorist offensives, march forward successfully. Hundreds of injured Tiger terrorists have vacated the area being unable to withstand the strong retaliation from the Sri Lanka armed forces. They have fled, isolating their remaining cadres creating a huge loss in their fighting battalion.

As the national security web states, military technical resources assisting the troops in combat have confirmed that over sixty six (66) Tiger terrorists have been killed so far.

Tiger terrorists continuously resist attempts by the armed forces in resettlement programmes in southern Trinocomalee by using mortar and artillery fire. Air strikes conducted by the Air Force on identified targets in Eachchalampattu, where the Tiger terrorists had placed their mortars and artillery, caused heavy damage to the terrorists.

In order to facilitate the Civilians' Resettlement Programme in Southern Trincomalee, Sri Lanka troops launched a clearing operation in Selvanagar, Thoppur and Muttur area yesterday.

According to the security forces, thirteen soldiers lost their lives and another seventy nine (79) injured. The soldiers who received minor injuries returned to their units after receiving medical treatment.

This operation will continue, facilitating the resettlement of civilians displaced in the recent tiger offensives.
