SCOPP and SLMM Weekly Meeting Focuses on Reporting Procedures

SCOPP Report
11 October 2007

The Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) held their regular weekly meeting on Thursday. The meeting mainly focused on reporting procedures but included a discussion of some issues of substance.

The SCOPP and SLMM agreed that it would be more beneficial if SLMM”s weekly reports included more specific information. Both SLMM and SCOPP agreed to work towards establishing greater transparency in their working methods

SCOPP suggested that SLMM develop a closer working relationship with local monitoring committees in the six districts. SLMM agreed to continue it’s close working relationship with local monitors.

SCOPP requested the SLMM to resume naval monitoring. SLMM agreed that this would be a positive step but mentioned some constraints. It also indicated that perhaps the ICRC should be approached in this regard.

The newly appointed SLMM's spokesperson Ms. Pia Hansson was formally introduced at the meeting.
