The Ministry of Education has launched a series of initiatives to promote a culture of peace within the school system and among the younger generation.
Accordingly the Ministry's 'Social Cohesion and Peace Education Unit’ is forming a new policy framework on social cohesion. The unit is already conducting student exchange programmes that bring students from different parts of the country together.
Other complementary strategies include the promotion of democratic values through a student parliament, introducing the 'Peace School' concept, enhancing cultural understanding through celebration of various festivals and improving awareness of peace building activities among educationists including teachers and Directors of Education.
