The suicide attack on Army Commander Sarath Fonseka in front of the Military Hospital on 25th April is a clear act of unforgivable violence by the LTTE and a violation of the CFA. This is conclusive proof that the LTTE had always been looking for an “exit strategy” not only from the talks, but from the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) itself.
The spate of claymore mines and attacks on Sinhalese civilians aimed at creating maximum outrage and consequent reprisals against Tamil civilians and their properties, it now appears, was only a precursor aimed at diverting the attention of the International Community from its diabolic designs.
It is further clear that the dilatory tactics adopted by the LTTE in relation to the transportation facilities offered by the Government through the good offices of the Norwegian facilitator was only to keep alive an illusion of its participation in the Geneva Talks so as to neutralise international pressure.
