While the signing of an MoU by the UNP was welcome by most in Sri Lanka, a cautionary voice not to get caught in the euphoria was necessary as well. This came in the form of the constitutional powers of the post of President to balance the painful effects of an unfairly negotiated peace. Sri Lanka is NOT FOR SALE!

God forbid - that Sri Lanka should want to emulate the West - specially America. Surely democracy is about participation and dialogue. If we all shut up and let the elected team get on or muddle on, without checks and balances, we will end up with a dictatorship.
