Daily I read comments supporting the peace process and villifying LTTE by |
two sections of Sri Lankan socities. The GOSL is obliged to educate it's citizens of the truth, the root causes of the conflict. It will take a true leadership, to |
admit and applogise for all the wrong doings in the past, so the general public can appreciate and support the peace process. What happened to the truth commission report? What was the GOSL response to the report? Can you publish it's essence in your web site. |

Firstly, i must the commend the Prime Minister and his government for bringing peace to our motherland and I wish them all success at the talks. The couragous initiatives that have been effected prior to the commencement of talks, has brought in goodwill and trust |
amongst the parties, which will no doubt streangthen the peace process. This attempt at bringing peace to our motherland has been the most successful initiative to date and we all peace loving lankans hope and pray that a durable and permanent peace will be |
achieved through a process of Consultation, Compromise and |
Consensus for the benefit of all three communities in the country. |

The constitution of Sri lanka, instead of being PRO SRI LANKAN is only pro-Sinhala and pro-Buddhist thereby, refusing to treat all citizens equally.and violating the charter of the UN. In fact the constitution is anti-Tamil promoting even injustice through a "justice system", an instrument of institutionalised Tamil oppression as for blacks in former apartheid South Africa. The President wants JTF to be within such a constitution. Is she really for peace in Sri Lanka? |

It seems clear that the LTTE is for peace. As I have indicated earlier, anyform of devalution has to take into account the reform of the Adminstrative Service of Sri Lanka. Failure to do this in my view would nigate any changes to the constitution. We would see a resurgance of the conflict. For the moment the talks are moving along well, |

Some bad elements in our country still try to disrupt the peace process. One after the other they tried every bad trics to bring war to benefit from the war. 200 year prision sentence is the latest drama staged specially at this time. We know who the culprits are. How desperate are they? We want peace at any cost. Go ahead Mr. Ranil; 200 years is nothing for you PIRABA! You will live for 2000 years in the hearts of the Tamils along with Mr. Ranil Wicramasinghe! Long live for both of you! |

Norway is systermatically and proffessionaly handling the peace process and all should put thire difference aside and try to look at the big picture and stop playing politices with |
peace. |
Head of the state should conduct herself accordingly and provide leadership to the country with long term thinking. Todays international trend is towards multiculturisem, globalisation and in eBusiness environment, there is no borders, so stop fighting for land, live and let live. |

Hope for peace rises. Statements from Thailand "The LTTE's shift from its demand for an Interim Administration." We hope that they have realized, that it can not go on like this in their Vanni controlled area. (example timediffrence) "Since we have committed to enter the democratic political mainstream, we have to accept other political parties and allow them to participate in the democratic politics in the North-East," Balasingam said. It will give more freedom of speech, and help to improve the politics of the LTTE. "The parties thereby continued the dual approach of moving step by step towards a lasting political settlement." |
We all wish that for Srilanka. |

Rapid Progress to Sri Lanka Peace,BBC, Sri Lanka sees real hope for peace; CNN, the headlines say it all. |
Congratulation! However the peace talks be tangible for people of this country, there is long impediment to be conceded. First the venom spewing president and her entourage including former FM trying to interfere with the process with duplicity, and the nit-picking Island editor and the bigoted politicians whose wisdom is unsighted by party politics. |
The government should go beyond all these obstacles by any means it has to take, to provide the people the serenity they deserve. |

It is indeed paramount that the crisis our country faces must be resolved with speed. However, this must be done with suitable and acceptable measures that would secure the rights of all minorities; giving them a free, secure and safe haven of life in Sri Lanka; free of opression or threat by one race or the other. |

My appreciations to Prof. Peries and Dr Balasingham for very constructive second round of talks. You showed the world how civilised world should solve their problems. I hope people in Sri Lanka soon realise the uselessness of fighting for land and physical boundaries. Today physical boundaries has no meaning. Most important asset is the human resource and the knowledge. |

Nice words of LTTE in Thailand what do acts prove? |
A LTTE member along with four others assaulted ALAXANDER, who is an active member of a rival political party.LTTE had further distributed leaflets among the public calling for payment of money as high as Rs.500-1000 (about US $ 5-10) to them for each load of firewood being collected. Naval troops apprehend LTTE boat with claymore minesLTTE had also threatened the bus driver and conductor not to stop the bus at |
VALACHCHENAI town in the future.Van was released but without his consignment of goods by LTTE, because the prices where too low. |

Congrats to both Teams for the steady progress being made in the Peace talks. We have heard of the 200 year sentence passed on the chief of one Team, and find that there is a man from the hill country (now wasting his time in parliament) who is hell bent on seeing that the sentence is carried out. I think we should enlist the support of this brave man, get him to select his "A" Teamand drop them in the Wanni to get the criminal and put him behind bars. We can all live happily thereafter. |

The LTTE is creating facts on the ground, where as any attempt of the SLA, Navy, or STF to open newcamps or locations (for instance in Delft) is opposed, and blocked. What does the MOU say about such actions.Propably nothing. The name Tamil Eelam Police, should be changed to Sri Lanka Tamil police. It would be a sign of trust in the peace negotiations. What about the Tamil Eelam flag after peace is achieved? Anything changed? |

The 200 year sentence passed on Prabhakaran is very warmly welcomed by true Sri Lankans. It goes to show that terrorists cannot get away with their terrorism. So many innocent people perished at the Central Bank. Now, the courts should pass judgement on the LTTE terror attack on the Dalada Maligawa, a religious site venerated by millions of our fellow Buddhists. This surely signifies a new beginning for the peace process in Sri Lanka - one where justice will be served. Well done Mr Wickremasinghe...all peace loving Sri Lankans are with you! |

Hi, |
I'm really really satisfied and am optimistic about the ongoing peace process between the SL Govt. and the LTTE. But I am deeply concerned about the fact that the Sri Lankan govt. has failed to get the participation and the ideas of the Sri Lankan diaspora. As far as I can remember, Mr.Balasingham on the day he met the media in Vanni said that theviews of the Tamils living abroad will be considered as well as the Tamils in Sri Lanka before agreeing to a final settlement. I think the Sri Lankan govt. too should follow a similar path. |

The GOSL has a capable chief negotiator with Prof. G.L. Peiris. He knows the SriLankan politics, and the main Srilankan political parties. It is understandable that the President |
Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga was at the beginning very reserved regarding the talks. She has survived a suicide attack of the LTTE. We all would react with prejudice if we were in her situation. How can she trust the LTTE after a peace initiative during her PA rule failed. Not to forget the attack on the international airport some months back. So all the critics of the President should consider this facts and stop hammering on her. |

whatever the steps be and whoever be the participants in the peace process, ultimately, it is true reconciliation that can bring permanent peace to Sri Lanka. For reconciliation to take place, forgiveness is an important precursor. Forgiveness should be unconditional or "without strings attached". Therefore, both Sinhalese and Tamils should make a |
very firm commitment to pardon the other side for the wrongdoings of the past and pain inflicted to each other. Forgiveness is difficult but is essential for reconciliation leading to peace. Forgiveness is divinely needing the intervention of God almighty. |

People in NEP pronounce the word 'Peace' without any hesitation because LTTE shouts about it. Otherwise no one would have dared to do so. Now, what do the ordinary Sinhalese brethren in the south feel about it? Are they well informed of the genuine stand of the LTTE? Make them available the Sinhala newspaper published by LTTE. |

Quoted from "The Economist": Tamils in uncleared areas already know the LTTE's ways. A woman hitchhiking with two companions turns out to be on her way to appeal to the LTTE to release her 17-year-old husband, who was locked up for desertion. A quarry |
worker near Batticaloa sent his son abroad after he escaped the LTTE's clutches; the father has since been detained six times. "People are scared," he says. In Batticaloa LTTE has drafted some children and imposed an extra 8% "tax" on civil servants' salaries. Last |
month the Tigers raided a Tamil newspaper, tying up its journalists and stealing equipment. |

It is definitely unproductive and destructive, if we as Sri Lankans, focus on and talk mainly about failures and shortcomings of the peace process. When we do that, we are failing to appreciate the goodness and massive progress of the peace process. I appreciate the expression of regret by the president for the anti-Tamill riots of July 1983, and her intent to form a committee for continuous ethnic reconciliation. The president is setting the golden example of asking forgiveness which leads to reconciliation. Let us as a nation do this and come into a forgiving life style. When a Sinhalese person meets a Tamil let him say "Brother forgive me for the brutal war we waged against you" and let the Tamil also in return say "Brother forgive me for the brutal war we waged agaist you" and hug each other with love. |

We have to be aware of leaving the problems of peace and disarmament to a few without putting our own attitudes in order. Peace efforts will be friuitless as long as hostility, contempt, and distrust as well as racial hatred and uncompromising ideologies continue to devide us and put us in opposing camps. There is a great need to re-educate our people and to guide public opinion in a new direction Those who are engaged in education and those who mould public opinion should regard it amomng their greatest responsibility to continue to educate our people in wanting peace. |

I am deeply disappointed in the LTTE's attitude towards peace. The reason is that they do not seem genuinely interested in a settlement. Babylon's comments seem to be inspired by the LTTE and is a reflection of the LTTE's refusal to accept parties that have different views to that of itself. They publicly say otherwise but in reality they are simply deceiving the gullible public. Hope Mr. Wikremasinghe in all his intelligence will be able to rope the LTTE in and expose it's horrible human rights record. We believe in you Mr. Wikremasinghe. |

I think all of Sri lanka is happy and optimistic about the peace process at the moment. But what concerns me is that the South is not stable enough to go into a final settlement yet. As we know the traditional behaviour of the Sri Lankan opposition over the years, it is |

We really appreciate the efforts and the commitement of the government as well as of the LTTE to continue with the ceasefire agreement which has put an end to the warfare in the North which dragged on for ever so long. But it is only through dialogue and negosiation with the genuine commitement of both parties for the wellbeing of the nation |

The incidents in Delft or Neduntheivu, are stirred up by LTTE imperialists, who try to control the whole government controlled areas in Northern and Eastern Provinces. While the TNAwants the EPDP to be disarmed, it called earlier for a tamil police in Trincomalee. What is the diffrence? The Tamil police is supported by the LTTE and the EPDP is not. I am wondering, if even the LTTE is behind the comunal troubles between singalese and muslims, to draw the muslims to their side against the singalese. |

Many talks are going on regarding the rebuilding of North and East. |
It is necessary to look at the train-connections. Since the british left, the railway sistem has not changed much, nor has it increased. Why the train only goes up to Baticaloa, why do they not plan to build it up to Puttuvil, and connectthe Badulla Railway line with the east and the south cost? Why the southern railway stops at Matara and not at Hambatota or Kataragama. In a later period the links from Kataragama to Putuvil and from Badulla to Kataragama could be build. Is the LTTE not interested in de-escalation of tension, but in building up tensions? By orderering numerous of students to launch a protest against the EPDP presence in Delft. |
By organizing a mass assemblies for their bloody suicide bombers, killing many of innocent civilians. WELL DONE JOB by Dr. Balasingham, who had played a very crucial role on behalf of Tamils, since every single statement he makes must be selective. Especially the comment Dr. Balasingham made ".totally unacceptable..& When the aspirations of our people are met by a political settlement ... the violence will automatically come to an end." |
If US could make sure Tamils "Aspirations are met (rights to self-determination)" there is no objection for renouncing the violence.. Hon. Mr. Armitage, Tamils have paid a big price. |

International community is fully backing the current peace process as demonstrated in Oslo. The success of this process will benefit mainly the people of Srilanka.
