I sencerly hope the current peace process of the country fullfill the aspirations of all communities of the land and bring fourth lasting pease and prosperity which has been much awaited and dreamt of and may all srilankans be proud of their achivement
and work towads a better srilanka of which we could all be proud of and happy to call it home

its such a relief that at last both side dicided to talk for the sake of the people of the country, people are are fed up with the war, not only fear of their life and their lovedones , cost of living and everything. only people who gained in this war are all those international countries who make wepons and the countries finance the war such as america. this peace deal will only work if america busy with their problems. and not putting their nose into srilanka's problem.
Ajanthan

Many tamils in foreign countries support the peace process, and support finacially the war by sponsering LTTE. LTTE special commander Ramesh said, "we have formulated strategies to keep our cadres productively employed during this time of peace and during the expected interim administration . We will continue to maintain our military strength." Such words are not supportive to peace. If LTTE is unarmed, if free election is held in the whole N and E, then peace is possible otherwise not. Give peace a chance dont trust the LTTE. They are only looking for their own advantage. War if their demands not fullfilled.

Sir
I wish to make some comments on Dr Anton Balasingham's statements at the last held peace talks in Thailand, particularly on the extract given below.
"The LTTE is the legitimate and authentic representative of the Tamil people. We have lived, fought and suffered with and for our people throughout the turbulent times of the war. We have a comprehensive knowledge of the socio-economic needs confronting the Tamil people. We have built an effective administrative structure for more than 10
years which has sustained the social cohesion and law and order. Therefore, it is crucial that the LTTE should play a leading and pivotal role in administration as well as the economic development of the northeast," Implying North and the East!

The tragedy of Sri Lanka's children in LTTE controlled areas is that those nations who abhor exploitation of children, even for making footballs, are today looking away from child conscription here, presumably with the good intention of not jeopardising the peace
process. Not only the army, but the LTTE too has to be blamed for all this misery and mayhem this bloody war has left behind.(a retired government servant who worked in the Jaffna Kachcheri)
The Ltte has used its fund for war, resulted in killing the parents of many children, but for their people, the have done the least possible.

I am a Sri Lankan Muslim; it is pleasure to see that all communities have at last realised that they could live together. I do believe that all communities will support the Prime Minister and his team to achieve the peace in the same manner without jeopardising the peace process by adopting new opinions and options.

Peace is the most sweetest word that we heard for the last 20 years Those who are involved in the process to achieve peace will have the backing and the blessings of the majority of the people of Sri Lanka who dreams for peace and pray for it in every second.
That's our childrens future.I will fail in my duty if i do not thank Honourable Prime Minister Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe,Minister Milinda Moragoda,Miniter G.L.Peiris & rest of the parliament mebers & proffessionals who works hard to achieve results.May god bless & give courage to our able leader & his eminent team.

I HOPE THAT ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE PARLIMENT AND THE PRESIDENT
STOP PLAYING PARTY POLITICS AND GIVE FULL SUPPORT TO THE PEACE
PROCESS. VICTORY OF PEACE IS NOT A PARTY VICTORY BUT THEVICTORY OF ALL THE CITIZENS OF MOTHER LANKA.

We have serious doubts about LTTE Sincerity for this peace process. They took 7 soldiers (who were in Government Controlled areas) by breaking the MOU. This is irritating most of peace loving people. They take the advantage of MOU and still practice their terror tactics. But we know that the government freeing some LTTE carders
who captured government controlled areas with Arms. Even though we support this peace process we do not hesitate to reject this if LTTE try to continue their Terror Tactics

Dear Minister Moragoda,
I really appreciate the creation of this web page as this will address many concerns raised by Sri Lankan expatriates and will help to defuse opportunists' actions who always try to
think on "Party Lines" and spread wrong inforamtion. I will forward this web address to all my friends.
Best Wishes for the peace process,

If we separate the lanhuage and The religion from the politics and think as one

OUR OBEDIENT THANKS TO HON.RANIL AND HON.PIRABA FOR THE
ACHIEVEMENT OF PEACE IN SRILANKA
logee

Everybody in Sri Lanka wants peace. But I can not understand why many tamils in western countries do not support a government of Saddam Hussein, Northern Korea, or any one party rule, or dictatorship. If in the country where they live the democratic rulership changes into a one party rule, then they would oppose it for sure. But
for their Eelam, their own homeland, they are willing to support an undemocratic arbitary rule where people are ruthlessly suppressed. I think many will come back hoping for peace, and then leave again because of the rulership of the LTTE.
ranjit

The Youth Friendship Programme organised by Olaboduwa Pradeepanee Youth Society has to be sponsored, because it is an active way to fight nationalistic propaganda of radical Singhala and Tamil organisations. If youth learn to know all the comunities of
Sri Lanka, then they will also care for all, when they are getting older, or if they
join politics. They will not favour only people speaking the same language or have the same religion. It is the best way to unite Sri Lanka at its roots and fight the propaganda of "the most stubborn guerrilla group in the world." (cited from Business Standard)
George

At last a leadership with the courage and foresight to initiate the long overdue resolution to the conflict via peaceful means. Let us hope that this brings not only longlasting peace, but prosperity and hope for the masses of Sri Lankan's, world wide, irrespective of race or religion. Let us make our country shine!! an example for the rest of the world.

For all peace loving politicians ;Are you with a leader whose action and statements discredit the office they hold, by playing to the gallery; or with the leader who work hard to bring glory to your country? Some politicians who claim to be educated are much worse than school dropout leader when it comes to governing the populace. Though peace is something everyone is yearning for, it doesn't come unless everyone sacrifice a little for the benefit of all

This is very good site. But I wanted suggest to the web master the following. Please watch the comments from people like GEORGE. He try to create the same old racist comments. I see every day.Look like he wnted the war to continue. Please, George write good things about this peace process.
Jane

Before, political statements were made only from the LTTE hierarchy and now all self-claimed leaders from N&E have started making comments about their operations and activities. This is not the appropriate time to make such irrelevant statements and this will destabilize the entire peace process. Every one knows about their military
capabilities and should not boast at this time about their past and future military plans, when they are committed to peace. Further, they should not betray the present Prime Minister like they did to the other leaders. The present leader has come forward with a clear vision to solve this

Fact of the matter is that the cause of the conflict was due to the short sightedness of so called leaders from both corners but never due to a conflict among the average Sinhala and Tamil people other than the times when politicians made use of a few thugs to cause riot. Therefore, please correct comments in your speeches. Furthermore, as the root cause of the conflict can be pointed towards the political leaders who always put self-interest before country, peace needs to start by transforming those individuals, if we are to truly take large steps through the process.

May the Almighty bestow peace in the nation. Let the bloodshed stop for a peace. My friend, a director of a Christian Organisation in India, went to Sattahip one week before the talks and had a prayer in the town for the success of the talks. I believe the country would achieve peace by the grace of Almighty and since it has some dedicated leaders for achieving peace, I believe the steps taken would surely have a positive result.

The LTTE continues to fight the SriLankan Army without weapons. First they asked to relocate all Army camps from schools, tempels and privat property. Then they force civilians to claim their land from the Army. (Talaimannar). Oppose construction of new camps in SLA conntrolled areas (Delft and Kuchchaveli). Complain fortification of existing camps (Kayankerni). Discussions about high security zones are going on. All have the purpose to chase SLA out of N and E, or weaken their strength. But they do not close up their training camps, nor do they plan to handover their weapons, indirectly strengthen their positions.

I have sent under separate cover an article in the Tamil Net which could be interpreted both locally and internationaly as an unreasonable act by the GOSL.It is very essential that all Tamil net articles are studied in detail and commented upon by the secretariat. Could these be published in your web page. Thanks

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has dismantled the Rural Development Society (RDS) building at Kayankerni village in the Vakarai divisional secretary division and strengthened its new camp in the area with material removed from roof and other structures, residents complained Saturday. Kayankerni is about 37 km north of Batticaloa town. SLA personnel, ignored protests by the villagers and RDS officials as

Peace process can succeed only if patience, tolerance , sense of reasonableness and justice prevail till the end of the process. GOSL shoould not sit back and wait to restore reasonable justice for the injustice instituted to Tamils under PA regime. It is unwise to wait till Tamils resort to mass action to remove injustice. Restoration of justice without demanding it is an act of good governance. This can definitely enhance reconciliation between Tamils and Sinhalese.

The Hon. PM, Min Moragoda & G.L can talk, talk and talk. you can get the aid, the rehab stuff &so on but youe PEACE will not work unless you change the thinking & dicipline the ordinary citizens of this country.
hopefully you people will be able to do that and bring growth over here, Best of luck for the nation's sake.

Congratulations. Up to now, 9.20 am, Eastern Time, USA) yours is the only report of the actual release by the LTTE of six SLA detainees.

Dear Editor,
I would like to comment on recently published two articles.
The first article title "Abducted Soldiers Released. They weren't abducted and they were captured by LTTE according to local and foreign news media. The second article titled "Seven confirmed dead in clash between LTTE supporters and the STF". Why are you saying LTTE supporters and why not Tamil people and STF. As you already know that the LTTE is the sole representative of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.
Please choose carefully worded titles and articles. Be neutral in this web site. I was very happy to see previous articles.
Thanks,
Sothi

There will be no peace in Sri lanka unless we divide the country. You can never trust the Buddhist monks

Sad to hear about the incident happend in Thirukkovil. I hope that all have learned their lessons. First all the comon people, stirred up by foolish Ltte propaganda will be more carefull if they are asked to join an Ltte protest against any institution of the GOSL. Second the LTTE has to realize that such mass demonstrations can not be carried out without any risk, and have to prove how much they will make use of democratic means to solve problems. Third, the STF will be more carefull in treating tamil people, avoid provocation, now they should try to get confidendence.
George

The Tamil Tigers have been heavily involved in organized crime in Canada, using human smuggling, passport fraud, bank fraud, credit card fraud, theft, threats, extortion and murder to raise money to finance their violent political campaign. The Canadian Security Intelligence Service estimates the Tigers raise vast amounts of money through Canadian front organizations, front businesses and criminal enterprises -- a financial network known as Tigers Inc. One can imagine, if such an organisation is going to rule in parts of Sri Lanka, how the situation will be. Unfortunately many sincere tamils ignore this facts, and keep on supporting the LTTE.

Your web site just gets better and better by the day, particularly in tems of full and open reporting, and the lengths you go to in keeping the site up to date. Were it not for your timely reporting of the "Four Killed in the Ampara Region", I doubt that I would have picked it up from the Daily Mirror itself, but rather, from foreign press sources.
Cheers, Joe

The latest LTTE attack in the east which lead to the death of 5 civilians is terrible. When will these people learn that they cannot control everything? Why does the LTTE keep on using innocent civilians to do its dirty work? What are they going to tell the family members of those killed? Hope the peace process does not suffer because of this.

I would like to thank the government for its commitment to achive peace in the Country. What ever obstacle it may face i sincerely wish all the success for the Government in its efforts to achive peace.

The armed forces of Sri Lanka, especially the STF, consists of soldiers "brainwashed "during their induction training that "all Tamils are either terrorists or supporters of LTTE terrorists" The UNF government should address this serious problem and retrain
and teach the truth to the STF soldiers, to enable peace to progress in Sri Lanka. If this is not done the recurrence of the incident by STF at Kanjirankuda in Batticaloa district on 10 October 2002 may not be avoidable.
David Anpan

The Commander of the Sea Tigers Colonel Soosai said, "our armed forces have fought for achieving our homeland, respect for our nationality and self-rule. It is important that we continue to modernize and strengthen our armed forces until we achieve these goals."The nationalistic celebrations held for LTTE women, cause only more division between all comunities in Srilanka. There is a long way to peace!!The general shut down has been called by the TOF, condemning the killings of seven Tamil civilians at Kanchirankuda in Ampara district". It shows how much power the LTTE already has in government controlled areas, after lifting the ban.

It is much encouraging to see the progress made since the truce in February. Of course we have seen some disturbing incidents, like the one where 7 soldires were abducted. But I believe we all have to act with restraint. As the Hon. Prime Minister always stress the wounds that have been pestering for 20 odd years cannot be healed in a few days.
We have to give some time and hope all will understand this and control their feelings.
Good luck.

I am pleased to see attempt by GOSL & LTTE to resolve issues negotiations. I would like to see features on the families of inter-race marriages to be highlighted on local TV & press show the enduring interaction between Srilankan communities which has been going for a long time. The common attributes between the communities is very much
larger than the differences. From what I gather, the current president's grandchildren will be 'SRILANKAN' not Srilankan Tamil or Srilankan Singhalese -- all of us should rejoice with the president.

While appreciating this web site for its candid stories, wonder is it essential to publish "In the media " section on your website. Rationale behind it is that certain media reports are sometime erroneous and misleading the audience. Without checking the veracity of the

The setup of tamil homeguards is the beginning of the LTTE police force, (police-of-Tamileelam) already existing in Vanni. More and more the LTTE, with the help of some TNA MP, tries to bring their Vanni system to the yet government controlled N and E. It will be easier for them, if they have an armed police force already. What about the civilians? Will they be really protected or will it be an easy way to extort monney, abduct children and commit other known LTTE crimes? Did Tamil paramiltary groups had to give up their weapons, to be replaced by armed LTTE?
George

The Hartal observed in N and E provokes only more hatred among the comunities,
it proves, that the country is on its way to split between singalese and tamils.
Instead of observing such hartal, it is better to organize a festival to unite singalese and tamils and make it a joyful event. The Ltte wants to remove another STF camp. My question is: What has the LTTE done to bring both comunities together?
They only speak about homeland of Tamils and Muslims, which means etnical cleaning, the singalese have to leave the area. There is a call for tamil homeguards, instead of a mixed unit.

And mke reader to read. Never make browser to off. It could be done by using a big font to present news. Using beautiful and relevent news photographs. and ect....further information contact me.

when country moving towards peace, education should be the most priority, in north of the country most of the schools are occupied by Armies, how could those childrens can start their studies?, and secondly those Buddist Monks(specially those Youngerones) should be educated as well, they are one of the major threat to the stability of the
peace, what i don't understand is religion should bring both communities together and love peace and harmony but we see otherway around, and it makes me feel do we really need a religion.

The recent reports show, that the GOSL is only keen to have discussions with the LTTE, while the LTTE is destroying any political force of Tamils in N and E. Now the government and the muslim communtiy should strenghend the moderate tamil parties. The Union of Tamil parties to TNA has led to weaken the individual parties and only strenghen the wing supporting LTTE. It is a must, that an opposition of Tamil parities extist against the LTTE. Otherwise the LTTE can legaly claim to be the solerepresentives of Tamils. Tamils need democracy with a variety of political parties.

The Ltte keeps on fighting Tamil opposition, especially the EPDP.It is interesting, that after the abduction of a muslim youth, the Ltte blames the EPDP, to miscredit this party, which totaly opposes the LTTE practices. It is surely not by chance, that on the
18.10.2002 the webside of the LTTE publishes an article, which aims to miscredit the leader of the EPDP in Jaffna, Douglas Devananda. The goal is clear, all LTTE opposition
from tamil parties have to be silenced, and people have to be forced to abandon all parties in opposition to the LTTE. They want their one party rule over Eelam.
George

I appreciate the advisory by SLMM for restraint by both GOSL and LTTE. This type of wisdom from an intermediary was not available in past peace efforts. Restraint of power and the foresight to steer the peace process are required both by LTTE and GOSL. May our good Lord grant us more wisdom to restrain.

The peace dove is wedged between tamed Tiger and lioness. Srilankan politicians never in the past worked for the country. This has mistreated the minority and eventually made them to take arms. If at all the peace comes to this island the southern politicians will run out of election promises like late SWRD made to come to power. The southern politicians never want the minority concern to be solved for their own political agenda. If at all this last opportunity is missed and the country separated, only the southern politicians should take the full responsibility.

Has the Ltte real interest in Peace and a united Sri Lanka?
here a statement. "Any solution to the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka has to be based on the reality that we have an army, navy and police and an administrative and judicialsystem","
S.Pulithevan, an official from the LTTE. In other words, "we already have a seperate state in Vanni, and this is the basis for future peace talks"!! Interesting is when it comes to funding, then the GOSL is needed to build up their future Eelam. Therewhile the chase of STF out of the East goes on at Kittanki-Kalmunai.
George

All of you in the Govt are talking peace. In the meantime th PRESIDENT is sending mixed signals abroad and here about her intentions. Now we hear of the president going to address the nation on a concilliatory note.In Gods name dont you cabinet ministers and the prime minister except for a few understand that this is another diversionary ploy to prevent the govt of threatning of going to polls and cutting off her presidential budget.
