There appears to be a change in trend in SL politics. National Bhikku Front (NBF) and Jathika Sangha Sammelanaya (JSS) speak and get involved mainly in political things than spiritual things. Therefore, they are more of political organisations than spiritual organisations. As political organisations they could be criticised and corrected in a democratic structure but then they get cover as religious organisations. To ensure progress towards PEACE this dual nature should be addressed by Sri Lankans.

Dear Sri Lankan,
Its my humble recommendation for a Peaceful Sri Lanka with a sustainable development leading to an Economical Power house in Asia. Where all Sinhala, Tamil, Muslims, SL Indians, and other minorities live in harmony.

1. We need to replace the SLMM with UN Peace-keeping force of probably 500 specisalist personnel in N & E.

2. Engage in De-escalation process under UN PKF by both GOSL & LTTE.

3. Creat Peace buffer Zones (PBZ)instead of HSZ.

4. Develop and implement rehabilitation of all Combatants.

5. implement Community Development projects.

6. All people incl politicians concentrate on SL development and economy not in fighting.
Thank you.
Anan

It was encouraging to see Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe receving such a rapturous welcome on his return. This clearly shows that President Kumaratungs has no national or international support for her actions. Parliament should be re-conveined and the peace process restared. Mr. Wickremesinghe should get back the ministries taken over by the President. Should she fail to agree then their is no alternative but to go to the polls and get a fresh mandate. Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Government has the support of the people for the talks. While'st the President has lost hers.Talks must continue.
Fr. Silva

I would like to say that you can not look back, on the peace process you have come such a long way as a nation, how can you turn you backs on it now you must not youan not for the good of thecountry.

Dear Sir,
Now that Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe has arrived back in the Island from Washington, let us resolve this issue. The government has a majority in Parliament. The Prresidents efforts to inlist the support of Parlimentarians for her action is rather cherlish. What is now needed is for Ranil Wickremesinghe to go to the country and seek a New Mandate. If does so, he will get the support of the people for his efforts to bring peace to the Island. The cohabitation between the President and the Primeminister cannot go on any longer. Lets dissolve Parliament and let the country deside.
Fr.Silva

Editorial last week of Island Newspaper claimed "masses are asses". What happened to masses when Banda-Chelva pact was signed then and what is happening now when politicians cry out loud "Federalism is division of country" could make one believe that masses are asses. Fedralism will be only decentralisation and not division of country is not comprehensable by masses because of past misinterpretation. Politicians surely know this basic political truth but make the masses to be asses and this is crime punishable by law. To progress towards PEACE, criminal politicians should be brought to justice, so that, masses do not become asses.

Democracy advocates decentralistion and devolution to bring power to the people. We in SL appear to be really getting united to bring democratic governance in our country. The PM, the President and LSSP chief, accept publicly that devolution leading to Fedralism is the solution for ethnic problem. LTTE should also extend its hand to the PM and the President at this time to bring devolution to Federalism and bring PEACE.
John Nathan

The current negotiations between the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE affords the best ever opportunity to secure lasting peace. The peace process has the support of British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Her Majesty's Government. It is going to be a long and hard road to a negotiated settlement as Tony Blair himself is experiencing - with Northern Ireland. But it is worth it. We pray for the success of the peace process.

Dear Sir,
The willingness of the LTTE for a system of interim adminstration for North and East should lead to a permernen solution to the present crisis. A Fedral system of Government for the whole of Sri Lanka would bring lasting peace. But if it is offered just for the North and East, it may not work and we would only store up trouble for the future. Fedral System should be available to all. I urge the Government in the peace talks to persue a Fedral System of Goverment for the Country. And wish the talks every success.

Dear Sir,
I am, happy to hear that Peace Commitees are been set up throughout the Country to gain the veiws of the people. May I also add that the Adminstrative Service of Sri Lanka should also be refomed. Government speaks of a Fedral System for Sri Lanka as a way forward., which I have advocated but with it must come the reform of Administrative Service without the influence of party politics. At all levels we need an Administrative Service that is based on Merit. I trust that the Government would take these comments on hand.
Fr. Christopher Silva.

Sri Lanka needs peace. Peace cannnot be gained without addressing the minorities problem. Its a time for peace loving people to unite together regardless ethnic and religious background.

Although federal (Central) government policies directly affect allcitizens of the nation. State (Local) government policies establisha more direct, intimate relationship with their constituents and consequently often have a greater impact on people's daily lives. Everything from administration of public schools to garbage collection to parking regulations comes from this special relationship that State (local) governments have with their citizens and the Federal (central) government with the local bodies in the 2nd house of parliment.
